Railway Stamps

The Railway Stamps of Victoria were issued for paying for the shipment of parcels onboard the train from one railway station to another within Victoria.

These stamps were printed by the Post Office on the same watermarked papers used for the postage stamps and were preforated using the same perforation machines as the postage stamps.

Sending parcels by train was not related to the Travelling Post Offices operated by the post office. Parcels franked with railway stamps were never delivered by the post office - instead, they were shipped directly from one rail station to another within Victoria for pickup by the recipient.
